ln 4.4 is "the natural logarithm of 4.4"
While it's possible to approximate the value of this log (using a series representation for the ln function), the more usual approach at this course level is to look up or calculate the value.
On my TI-83 Plus calculator, I entered "ln 4.4" and obtained the result 1.48. This is approximate.
