Why was the urban revolution essential in the development of civilizations

The urban revolution helped civilizations develop economically, and politically. Since the a large population survived, a more complex government system developed. Due to technology advances, and other factors, there was surplus in agriculture and time to specialize in occupations besides farming. Hence, population grew, and civilizations succeeded.
