x+x^2 = 42
Therefore x can equal -7 or 6

The equation which is the answer would be [tex]y=x+ x^{2} [/tex]

x + x squared = 42. The square of the number is the number squared. BY my incredibly accurate guess and check strategy (Works most of the time), 6*6 = 36 + 6 = 42.
