5x+3x = 7x
-6+2= -4y
then use 7x and divide it into 42 which is 7X
then use -4y and divide it into 42 and get -10.5y
and do the same with both numbers and you get 2x and -3.5y
7x+2x is 9x
-10.5y + -3.5 = -14
