The theory of biogenesis argues that all living things were originated from other living things, that is, life cannot spontaneously arise from non-living material, as the spontaneous generation theory argues.
The strengths of the theory are:
- It explains the presence of microbes when air exists, but not when air is removed (when air is not available, there is no risk of contamination, and microbes cannot grow spontaneously).
- It explains why all living organisms have a reproductive system.
