y=-6x+54

5y-x+9=0

5(-6x+54)-x+9=0

Distribute the 5 to the -6x and 54.

-30x+270-x+9=0

Then simply.

-31x+279=0

Subtract 279 from both sides.

-31x=279

x=-9
