Use the first equation to get x in terms of y by moving y to the right side leaving you with x=y. Plug in y for x in the second equation and get y+y=-2 then 2y=-2. Divide by 2 and y=-1. Plug -1 in for y and you get x-(-1)=0 which solves to x=-1. Both variables equal -1.
