First, we can see that both 3 and 9 are divisible by 3. So we know that 3/3=1 and 9/3=3.

When factoring equations, there have to be parenthesis so it's more organized. So we can put 3 outside of parenthesis:

3(x-3)

The reason we put the 3 outside of parenthesis is because when we multiply 3 by everything in the parenthesis, we will get the equation we originally started with, which is 3x-9.  

So the answer is 3(x-3)
