Multiply 3 by 2.75, which is 8.25.

Now, subtract 8.25 from 10.

 There is the equation  10 - 2.75 x 3 
here is how you solve it
 10 - 2.75 x 3
 10 - 8.25  
  1.75
you get $1.75 from $10.
