The producers represent the first trophic level in an ecosystem. They include all autotrophic organisms. By using their photosynthetic pigments they trap light energy and convert it into chemical energy. They do so through photosynthesis, taking up carbon dioxide and water from the environment. Producers are a source of energy for all other living organisms.
