The slant or oblique asymptote of the function is the part of the quotient besides the remainder. In this case, we use long division to divide 4x 2 - x + 2 by   x + 1. The answer is (4x -5) + 7/(x+1). In this case, the slant asymptote is equal to 4x - 5.
