Atomic masses of each of the component atoms is, Na = 23; H = 1; C = 12; O = 16

Step 1: Molar mass of NaHCO3 = 23 + 1 + 12 + 3*16 = 84 g/mol

Step 2: Percentage mass of Carbon = (atomic mass of Carbon / molar mass of NaHCO3) * 100%

= (12 / 84) *100%

Percentage Mass of carbon = 14.3%
