3x -6 = 2(x + 4)
Multiply x by two and 4 by 2 to get
3x - 6 = 2x + 8
You want the x to be alone on one side so you add six on both sides to get rid of it to get:
3x = 2x + 14
You still don’t have just one x and it isn’t alone on one side, so you subtract 2x from both sides and get
x = 14
