How does the sun supply living things with the energy they need?

Living things eat food that was produced by the sun. If they are a carnivore (only eats meat) it will it another animal that once at the plants. If there wasn't the sun to produce the food the herbivore (one who eats plants) would die of starvation. Then the carnivore would also die because it didn't have a herbivore to eat
