what affects the rate at which acid rain reacts with a statue

...acid rain can eat away metals, it’ll corrode them, but to affect the rate?? I’m pretty sure some elements can neutralize acid, perhaps slow down its reaction, like limestone for example. A lake lined with limestone will neutralize any acid fallen into the water. But as for a statue, I’m not sure but it must be something similar... sorry I can’t be more of a help :\
