Why is it better to use the metric system, rather than the English system, in scientific measurement?

Answer:

Because the metric system is acknowledged by all countries except for the US, therefore, to put it only in a format understood by Americans would make it harder for the larger population of the scientific community to understand. If it's in the metric system, it can easily be understood for peer review and or involvement
