In "To Build a Fire," what does the man's initial reaction to the old-timer's advice demonstrate?

OMG YAS I KNOW THISS.

Ok. The man is condensing to the old man, thinking him frivolous, weak, and womanly. It proves the he is confident of his skills and "manliness", giving an impression of pride, hot-headedness, and cockiness.
