Answer:

Using simultaneous Method

x + 2y = 13 ------- eqn 1.

x + y = 5y --------- eqn 2.

x = 13 - 2y --------- eqn 3.

Substitute x into eqn 2

13 - 2y + y = 5y

13 = 5y +2y -y

13 = 6y

6y = 13

Divide both sides by 6

y = 13 /6

Putting y into eqn 3

x = 13 - 2 ( 13/6)

x = 13 - 4.3

X = 8.7

Therefore x = 8.7, y = 13 /6
