Why do astronauts appear to bounce when they are on the moon? Well there is a simple explanation. Gravity. The moon has 80 times less mass than Earth and the moon's gravity is about 1/4 as strong as the earth's gravity. So when astronauts “walk” on the Moon, it appears as bouncing or hopping because of the lack of gravity humans are used to.
