First I think you should definitely go over your teacher syllabus. On how he or she wants you to respond back, the word amount( 100 words or more), and make sure you respond before the deadline. Also, during the discussion, you can also ask questions it should be like a conversation with the whole class, however, some discussion questions can be essays and they should be answered like essays.
