An exponent is the number of times you multiply the base number. Here are examples: [tex] 4^{2} [/tex]⇒4×4=16 ------------------- [tex] 2^{4} [/tex]⇒2×2×2×2=16 ------------------- [tex] 16^{1} [/tex]⇒16×1 since the 16 is the one so it's just 16
