-3x-8=10 
First add 8 to both sides 
-3x=18 
Then divide both sides by -3 
x=-6

So the first thing you would do is add 8 to both sides to get the variable by itself. -3x=10
then you would divide by -3 on both sides 10/-3= -3.33333
