Dividing is the action of slimming a number down to a smaller size. When you divide a whole number by a decimal less than 1 the quotient is greater than the whole number because the that is how many times the quotient is a part of the whole number. For instance, you divide 100 by 4, you will get a quotient of 25. There are 4 parts of 25 to be equal to 100.
