Does sin cos tan only work with right triangles

Trigonometric functions aren't to do with triangles specifically, they are to do with angles.

So no, they aren't only for right angled triangles.

For example, the formula (1/2)ab * sin(c) calculates the area of a triangle, and will work on isosceles and scalene triangles.
