I've remembered the square root of 144 is 12, so 12 is one of the whole numbers that the square root of 142 lies between.
Since it's consecutive, and 144 is more than 142, we can safely assume the other number is 11.

The square of 11 is 121.
The square of 12 is 144.

11 and 12 are the closest two consecutive square numbers that square root 142 lies between.

Your answers are 11 and 12.

I hope this helps!
