The Sherman Anti-trust Act was passed in 1890 by Congress under President Benjamin Harrison. It served as the first major legislation that prevented the proliferation of oppressive practices by monopolies or cartels. Individual violators can be fined up to $350,000 and sentenced to up to 3 years in prison while companies can be fined up to $10 million.
