25 - (1/5)x = 18

Subtract 25 from both sides:
25 - (1/5)x - 25 = 18-25
(-1/5)x = -7

Multiply both sides by -5:
-5(-1/5)x = -5(-7)
x = 35

Well first find the difference between 18 and 25 which is 7. This tells us that seven is one fifth of a number. 7 times 5 is 35 which is your answer.
