We are given the equation [tex] \frac{-1}{2}(5x-8)-1=6 [/tex]

to solve the equation we follow the following steps:

i) add 1 to both sides:

[tex] \frac{-1}{2}(5x-8)=7 [/tex]

ii) multiply both sides by -2:

5x-8 = -14

iii) add 8 to both sides:

5x=-6

iv) divide both sides by 5:

x=-6/5
