Agriculture is heavily dependent on how suitable the land that the society lives around is, some societies tried to adopt agriculture but were built around such unsuitable (dry/non-fertile soil) that crops couldn't grow. Even societies that were sucsessful in agriculture may have not developed into advanced civilizations because of a million diffrent reasons, they may have faced a drought, war, disease or any other hardship that could hold them back.
