Three key democratic principles are: 1) a political system for choosing and replacing a government through free and fair elections, 2) citizens actively participating in civic life and politics and 3) the protection of the basic human rights of all citizens. Democracy is defined as a form of government where all the people are involved in making political decisions and it is a government run by the people and for the people.
