Religion was important to the establishment of Hebrew states because they believed that God was their mentor, and to build a civilization correctly, they would need God’s aid to achieve this. Not only was this why, but it was also because they believed in honoring God for all of the opportunities in life they had been given(Such as escaping Egypt).
