What happens to the area if the height is tripled and the base stays the same?

you mean
[tex]SA=4\pi r^2h[/tex]
when height is trippled
replace h with 3h

[tex]SA=4\pi r^2 (3h)[/tex]
[tex]SA=3(4\pi r^2h)[/tex]
the surface area is tripppled
