x+5y=-11 (1)
2x-3y=17 (2)

2(1)-(2)
2x+10y-2x+3y=-22-17
13y=-39
y=-3

Sub y=-3 in (1)
x+5(-3)=-11
x=4

So x+y= -3+4 =1
