x + y = 4 so y = 4 - x
2x + 3y = 0

substitute y = 4 - x into 2x + 3y = 0
2x + 3y = 0
2x + 3(4 - x) = 0
2x + 12 -3x = 0
-x = -12
 x = 12

y = 4 - x = 4 - 12 = -8

answer
(12 , -8) is the solution
