Selective harvesting in other words can be referred to as selective cutting. It is a form of harvesting which is less destructive and cannot be compared to clear cutting which is more destructive. It is a practice of removing a single tree or just a few while leaving others behind.  The main aim of selective harvesting is to remove the trees without destructing the surrounding organisms and habitats including the soil.
