To find the volume, you multiply the length, width, and height. 
3x9x5=135.
135 is the volume. 

The formula for the surface area is  2(lw + lh + wh). So all you have to do is plug the values in. 

So 
2(lw + lh + wh) becomes 2( (3x9) + (3x5) +9x5) ). Then you multiply the numbers together, then add them, then multiply that sum by 2. 

The surface area is 174.
