The impulse is transferred from the carotid artery to the glossopharyngeal cranial nerve via the vagus nerve to the medulla to enhance parasympathetic activity and reduce sympathetic activity.

The term baroreceptor reflex is used for one of the body’s homeostatic systems which aid to regulate the blood pressure at almost stable levels.
