Athletes often attribute their losses to bad officiating. This best illustrates the self-serving bias. 

Self-serving bias is a perception or thinking by someone that distorts reality to make sure they have a high self-esteem. They want to perceive themselves in a favorable way, so instead of taking initiative for why they lost, it's easier to place blame than accept reality.
