4x = 16

Problem:- Mary has 16 dollars and wants to buy some candy. Each candy is worth 4 dollars. How much candy did she buy if she spent all her cash? 

4x = 16
4x/4 = 16/4
x = 4

Answer; She bought 4 pieces of candy
