To solve for y we have to use the INVERSE OPERATION of addition which is subtraction. Lets do it:-

10 + y = 28
y = ?
28 - 10 = y
28 - 10 = 18
y = 18

CHECK OUR WORK:-

10 + y = 28
y = 18
10 + 18 = ?
10 + 18 = 28
We were RIGHT!!!!

So, y = 18.
