The ancient Rome homes were single story home. They were called “Domus”, it was usually occupied by middle and upper classes during the Republican and Imperial eras. It contained an office, a living room, a room for sleeping and an area for chilling in the middle called atrium.

The poors usually lived in rundown rental apartments called “insulae”, that were multi level apartment blocks.
