The Harlem Renaissance was an intellectual, social, and artistic movement that took place in the 1920s in Harlem, New York. It embraced poetry and prose, painting and sculpture, jazz and swing, opera and dance in a realistic presentation of what it meant to be black in America, questioning racist stereotypes redefined how people of other races understood the African American experience.
